Písečná (Jesenicko) - Písečná in Jesenicko is building a square that the community has long lacked. The reason is that the local people have nowhere to gather. The mountain village wants to serve as a model for surrounding villages with this unconventional step. The costs of construction will rise to three million crowns. Písečná will obtain funding through state subsidies and its own resources. This was stated by the mayor of the municipality, Petr Slovák.

"Písečná has no square. The urban study we conducted clearly demonstrated that we lack such an area. The character of the mountain village is such that it stretches along the stream, and people have nowhere to meet. The only place is the sidewalk by the road. We want to be a model for other municipalities as well. The responses have been significant," noted the mayor.
The square will be built in the center of the village near the local primary school. Residents can look forward to a paved space made from local traditional materials of granite and marble. There will also be benches, directional signs, and information boards. In the middle of the square, a stone obelisk with the municipality's emblem will be erected. "The square will rise in a location that, according to historical photographs, fulfilled this function during the interwar period. After that, the square disappeared for unknown reasons," added the mayor.
The municipality started construction of the second phase in June. Local residents should be able to stroll through the square by September. Part of the funding for the square was obtained through grants from the Ministry for Regional Development from a program supporting affected regions. In the first phase, when experts established network relocations and lighting, the regional office helped the municipality. The total costs will amount to 3.2 million crowns.
Surrounding mountain communities in Jesenicko also lack a square. "I saw the project, it is very nice. We do not have a typical square, but a park with a children's playground serves as a place for gatherings, where various events take place," said today Vlastimil Hoza, the mayor of neighboring Supíkovice, to ČTK. A typical square is also absent in nearby Česká Ves. According to an employee of the local municipal office, the village stretches several kilometers, and there is no central space where, just like in Písečná, a square could be built.
