This year's football World Cup in South Africa is slowly coming to an end. Preparations for the celebrations of this round nonsense are, however, in full swing. The Russian Football Union RFU has also decided to bid for hosting the World Cup in 2018 or 2022 and will compete with England or the joint project of Spain and Portugal. This Wednesday, the results of the architectural competition for the reconstruction of Moscow's Dynamo Stadium (also known as VTB Arena Park) were announced, where the first prize was awarded to the Rotterdam office Erick van Egeraat in partnership with Russian partner Mikhail Posokhin. In addition to the complete renovation of the stadium dating back to 1928, the architects will also be responsible for the new design of the adjacent park. Dynamo Moscow Stadium is one of the largest buildings in Russia, covering an area of 300,000 m². After renovation costing 500 million Euros, the complex is expected to include cultural, health, and sports centers, and above all, a stadium with a seating capacity of 45,000. The chairman of the jury, Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, particularly praised the concept of placing the entire construction program under one roof, which will achieve a mix of sports and cultural facilities, allowing the building to be used year-round. The jury also welcomed the preservation of the original facade of the football stadium.
