Toyo Ito won a competition a few years ago to expand the exhibition area of Fira de Barcelona. Although the entire complex with two 114-meter-high towers and a conference center is to be completed only in 2009, the first of the buildings designed by this Japanese architect opened to visitors just a few days ago. Ito designed the main entrance to the Gran Via exhibition center in glass and concrete, as well as a half-kilometer-long corridor that forms the backbone of the new section of the exhibition area. Once completed, the complex will have an impressive area of 240,000 m². Link>
