After half a year, the functionalist café Era opened in Brno today

Brno – After half a year, the Era café in Černá Pole reopened today in Brno, which is one of the symbols of Brno functionalism. The building is returning to its original purpose and under new management, it is called Bistro Era, said Raed Kahwaji, a Brno café owner and restaurateur.

Together with architects, he worked for the last four months on interior adjustments and also on creating a new outdoor patio. "We will offer two patios now, front and back, and for corporate or private events, we plan to open the upper floor with a terrace," said Kahwaji.

The restaurant aims to serve specialty coffee and simple dishes made from fresh and local ingredients. "We want Era to live again. We want people to stop by in the morning for coffee, come for lunch, have a drink in the afternoon, or dinner in the evening. At the same time, we want to respect the uniqueness of the place and its history and connect it with contemporary gastronomy," said the restaurateur.

The café in a row of family houses on Zemědělská Street, near Mendel University, was designed in 1927 by young architect Josef Kranz. It was supposed to serve its owner as a residential house at the same time. The building is characterized by clean lines and a distinctive spiral staircase. After 1948, the building was nationalized, and instead of a café, it became a pub. The building underwent a complete reconstruction only in the 21st century. It served café operations again from 2011, but in recent years, not very successfully.
