The Toronto CN Tower was the tallest structure in the world for 32 years

Toronto/Prague – The telecommunications and observation tower CN Tower, which was opened in Toronto, Canada, 50 years ago on June 26, 1976, is one of the most famous of its kind in the world. The construction of the 553-meter tall tower began in February 1973, and until September 2007, the CN Tower was the tallest building in the world for a total of 32 years. In 1995, the tower was declared one of the seven modern wonders of the world by the American Society of Civil Engineers.

The tower, whose construction cost approximately one billion crowns, features a revolving restaurant and its upper observation area at a height of 447 meters has a glass floor. Since 2011, it has been a tourist attraction for an adrenaline experience called the Edge Walk, where participants can walk along the edge of the tower at a height of 356 meters, secured by harnesses.

The tower is built to withstand earthquakes of up to 8.5 on the Richter scale and winds of up to 420 km/h.
