How to design a kitchen best? The Blum Kitchen Award has launched its first edition

01.07.2026 12:15
Kitchens are often judged by their photographs. However, the space we use every day relies not only on appearance but primarily on how it functions in everyday use. The new Blum Kitchen Award aims to highlight realizations that can connect quality design with thoughtful ergonomics, logical organization, and long-term functionality.

The first edition of the competition is intended for architects, interior designers, furniture manufacturers, carpenters, and kitchen studios. The jury will not be looking for the most striking aesthetic solution but for designs that best respond to the everyday needs of users.

Criteria for assessment will include the organization of work zones, the continuity of individual activities during meal preparation, efficient use of storage space, and the overall integration of the kitchen into the interior. An important role will also be played by intuitive use and the quality of details, which significantly impact comfort during daily operations.

The establishment of the award simultaneously opens a broader debate about the role of the kitchen in contemporary living. It is one of the most complex spaces in the interior, where demands for aesthetics, ergonomics, technology, and individual lifestyle intersect. The ability to combine all these aspects into a functional whole will be one of the main themes of the competition.

The first edition of the Blum Kitchen Award was announced on March 26, 2026, at the MATERIÁL + TREND conference in Prague. Applications can be submitted until September 30, 2026. The ceremonial announcement of the winners will take place on November 5, 2026, as part of the INTERIÉRY conference in Brno.
More information about the conditions and application options can be found on the Blum Kitchen Award website.

Did you know…?
The company Blum, the organizer of the competition, has long been engaged not only in the development of furniture hardware but also in researching how people use kitchens and living spaces. The insights gained about user movement, the organization of work zones, or the ergonomics of storing items are reflected in the development of new solutions and in educating professionals. The emphasis on functionality and everyday comfort has become one of the impulses for the creation of the Blum Kitchen Award.
