Kladno – Architect Josef Pleskot has submitted a design for the new Sítenský Bridge to Kladno. Its steel structure is intended to reflect the industrial history of the city. The bridge should be completed within five years. The city hall is now set to announce a tender for the project work. This will be followed by the permitting process and the selection of a contractor. The city, along with the architect, will present the study to the public on October 10. The cost of the new bridge, including the demolition of the current one, is estimated to be around 200 million crowns, according to a press release from the spokesperson of the Kladno city hall, Lucie Steinerová.
The current bridge, built in the 1960s, is in poor technical condition. It spans the Sítenské Valley, which is one of the largest green areas in the city. At the same time, it is an important transportation link between the Sítná area and the city center. For motor traffic, there will be four lanes on the new bridge, just like on the existing one.
"The Sítenský Bridge serves not only a transportation function but also a city-forming one, connecting important parts of the city, and a landscape-forming one. We placed high demands on the aesthetics of the design. The study includes static, architectural, and traffic solutions, as well as the construction process," said Pleskot. The length of the new bridge is expected to be 114 meters, with a width of 23.8 meters including a two-meter gap in the middle.
"The design meets our requirements and exceeds them in many aspects. It is very important that during construction, half of the bridge will be maintained for public transport," noted Kladno's mayor Dan Jiránek (ODS). According to him, the design generously addresses walkways and bike lanes on both sides of the bridge and will offer more spaces as well as resting areas with views into the valley.
