Brno - The Brno-based Mikro-teatro is striving to break down the barriers between performers and the audience. Minimalist performances for children and adults are staged in apartments or cafés, and in the past year also in their own space on Josefská Street in Brno, which, however, resembles more of a living room than a theater hall. Similar home theaters are common in Spanish-speaking environments, said the director Veronika Všianská today to ČTK.

"We pride ourselves on a family atmosphere. When a viewer comes here, they should not feel like they are in a theater, but like they are in a living room," said actress Filipína Cimrová. After the performance, the actors do not disappear backstage – they have none. They stay with the audience, who can chat with them or enjoy a coffee together. "In theaters, discussions after performances are held as a special event; we have it essentially after every show, in a friendly format," added actress Tereza Sikorová.

This year, the theater is preparing a monodrama for one actress titled La Pícara. The play is inspired by the life of Catalina de Erausové, who lived in the 17th century and was born as a woman but adopted a male identity after escaping from a convent and traveled adventurously. The play was written by Pavel Drábek and Josh Overton. The premiere will be on March 21 on Josefská Street. "We plan to stage the play in pubs and bars as well," stated Všianská.

Another original performance, premiering in May, will be dedicated to architect and designer Růžena Žertová, who passed away in 2019. The performance titled Navždy se uchová, Růžena Žertová will be staged in the venues that Žertová designed, which were often department stores.
