Brno - The Brno City Hall has decided to sell the functionalist building of the former municipal baths Kopečná in the city center. The listed building, designed by architect Bohuslav Fuchs, will be awarded to the highest bidder, said the Deputy Mayor Oliver Pospíšil (ČSSD) to ČTK. The minimum price is nine million crowns, and the city has set no conditions for its future use. The baths, known as Kopečná, are located on Nádražní Street. "The building only has massage boxes. There are no pools or anything like that. Originally, there were bathtubs, as the building served people as baths," said Pospíšil. The building, from the years 1928 and 1929, is a protected monument, and therefore, according to Pospíšil, the city might face difficulties selling it. "I am cautious about its marketability. Every owner will have to negotiate with the heritage authorities, and I don't know if they will insist, for example, on the layout division into walls," Pospíšil said. Besides the building itself, its location in the city center, close to the train station, is also attractive. "I can imagine a restaurant there, for instance," hinted Pospíšil about possible uses. A real estate agent contacted by ČTK stated that determining the price of the building from a distance is difficult. The size of the land on which the baths are located also plays a role. Due to its location, the land itself could be worth several million crowns. According to Pospíšil, the building is now in good condition, with the last renovation being done ten years ago.
