Brno - A new building with a care service has been built in Křídlovická street in Brno for more than 36 million crowns. It will offer 18 apartments, said the mayor’s deputy Klára Liptáková (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today. The construction took a year. Brno has 49 buildings with care services providing 910 apartments for seniors. However, the demand is much higher; the city records another approximately thousand applications for placement in a home. Those selected by the city from the waiting lists could move in this summer.

The building has four above-ground floors and a small outdoor garden for the residents. "On the first floor, there are administrative and social spaces for the care service and a communal garage with parking spaces," Liptáková stated.
The apartments are located on all remaining floors of the building. Of the 18 apartments, twelve are 1+kk in size and six are 2+kk. "There are two barrier-free apartments on the second floor," Liptáková added. Brno has a total of 79 barrier-free apartments in its 49 buildings.
According to Liptáková, the building is situated in a good location. "Its advantage is that it is located near the historical center and is easily accessible by public transport. Moreover, it is close to the river, which is a suitable environment for walks. Between the building and other apartment buildings in the area, there is a gap that contains a relaxation garden for possible seating for the seniors who will inhabit the building," Liptáková added.
Brno wants to establish more apartments for seniors due to high demand. "Moreover, the population in Brno is aging, and this issue needs to be addressed even more," Liptáková stated. According to her, there is a possibility that apartments for seniors could also be created in municipal apartments that are unoccupied because they are too large. It would be possible to convert them into smaller apartments.
In addition, Brno has approximately 20 homes for seniors offering over 2000 beds.
