Brno – Brno will make the area around the bus station near the Grand hotel barrier-free and will add nearly 30 induction loops for hearing-impaired individuals, which increase the intelligibility of spoken words for people with hearing aids or cochlear implants. This was stated to the journalists today by the deputy mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL). The costs of both investments will reach nearly two million crowns. The work will take place later this year.
The Brno City Transport Company is renovating the bus station near the Grand for about 15 million crowns. New restrooms, a waiting room, and a ticket sales point will be created, and the project also includes the reconstruction of the roof structure and new asphalt. "However, the project did not include barrier-free adjustments, so we felt sorry not to do it since work is already being done in the area," Hladík stated.
Work costing 1.6 million crowns will affect the sidewalks along the station to reduce barriers for the disabled. "Barrier freedom will facilitate access not only for mothers with children and wheelchair users but also for all visitors to the station and stops," Hladík said. According to him, the station will be equipped with a 3D information panel. "It will be supplemented by a 3D model of the station and a communicator that will help all passengers, especially those with visual and hearing impairments, navigate," Hladík added.
In addition, the city will add an induction loop for the deaf at 21 locations and in six other halls for 140,000 crowns. According to Hladík, the city wants to accommodate the hearing-impaired who often complain about poor clarity of spoken words at government offices or in the large council chamber. "Induction loops are a solution for hearing-impaired individuals who wear hearing aids or have cochlear implants. They help overcome acoustic disturbances in the environment and provide them with a full listening experience," Hladík said.
Induction loops will be installed, for example, at the counters of the Ministry of the Interior, transport, administrative activities, or the environment. They will also be present in the Chamber of Deputies or the Knight's Hall of the City Hall of Brno.
