Brno – The leadership of Brno is approaching an agreement on the purchase of land in Brno-Vinohrady, where the developer had planned a criticized recreational complex. The price of the land should be about 15.4 million crowns. In a press release today, the city councilor for urban planning, Filip Chvátal (KDU-ČSL), stated this. The project has previously been criticized by the opposition in the city district and part of the public. There were concerns that the proclaimed recreational housing could serve as long-term accommodation.
The construction of the recreational area, which was to include a climbing center, was being prepared by the Brno development company Properity. The complex was to be located at the end of Čejkovická street in the areas where there are currently tennis courts and greenery towards Jedovnická street. It was also supposed to include 94 apartments for recreational accommodation ranging from 1+kk to 4+kk.
Chvátal stated that the project has been problematic from the beginning and that, in cooperation with the city district Vinohrady, Brno has therefore started negotiations regarding the purchase of the affected land. "We want to acquire the land for the ownership of the city at the agreed purchase price of 15.4 million crowns. At the same time, we have agreed to reimburse the investor for the costs associated with the preparation of the project in the amount of 8.6 million crowns. These costs will be settled by the city district Brno-Vinohrady. The city of Brno will provide the city district with a loan for this purpose in the amount of 6.6 million crowns,” said Chvátal.
According to critics, the intention of the project among the apartment blocks was merely a pretense for long-term housing and was only a way to bypass the urban plan. They were also concerned about the expected negative impacts on the environment and traffic situation, as well as fears about a decrease in housing standards.
If the city manages to purchase the land, according to the opponents of the project, there is a chance that the locality will be transformed in a way that the local residents would wish – that the purpose of the land for recreation and sports will be preserved.
