The laser building in Břežany received the MIPIM architectural award

Prague - The building of the laser center in Dolní Břežany near Prague has won the international architectural award MIPIM for the best industrial and logistics project. The facility designed by a team of Czech architects led by Viktorie Součková from the Prague branch of Bogle Architects succeeded among 2,500 competitors. Bogle Architects announced this today via ČTK. The Břežany Laser Center was officially opened last October and is expected to be fully operational by 2018.

The building was approved for use last December. According to the architects, it consists of four separate parts, one containing offices, the other two housing laboratories and laser halls, and the last one being a multifunctional building with a café, a lecture hall, and a library. "The jury particularly appreciated that the very complicated building has a simple concept and is easily readable," said Bogle Architects. The award is granted in Cannes, France.

In the past, the MIPIM award for buildings in the Czech Republic was given to the Main Point Karlin building in the office buildings category. In 2012, it won first place among more than a hundred projects from 47 countries around the world.

The ELI Beamlines laser center in Dolní Břežany will assist scientists in research related to space as well as in the fight against cancer. The construction cost 6.8 billion crowns, most of which was funded by European grants.
