Havířov – The railway station building in Havířov, Karviná, has a new glass facade on its southern side. New aluminum frames were installed onto the original steel supporting structure, housing 243 insulating triple-glazed panels with a special coating that prevents overheating in summer. The Czech Railways announced this today on Twitter.

The reconstruction of the Havířov railway station building from the 1960s began last year and is expected to be completed by May next year. The total costs reach 157 million crowns, financed by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure. Since July, passengers in Havířov have been using the new ticketing areas that were created in the former administrative building.

The station building in Havířov was constructed between 1964 and 1969 in the so-called Brussels style, based on a design by architect Josef Hrejsemnou. The design was also contributed to by sculptor Václav Uruba. In the past, there were considerations for demolishing the hall, which sparked a wave of opposition.
