Prague - The Czech pavilion for the world exhibition Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, has been completed and is awaiting approval. Czech companies have headed to Japan, and an artistic team is also preparing to set up the exhibition. This was stated today by Ondřej Soška, the general commissioner for the Czech participation. The gates of the world exhibition will open on Sunday, April 13.

The pavilion's construction was designed by Apropos Architects as a 17-meter high wooden panel structure that utilizes the principle of a spiral and is reinforced by a special roof with a terrace. "On Monday, March 17, there will be an inspection by the approval commission, exactly 11 months after signing the contract with the Japanese company and six months after the start of construction, and they will subsequently issue the approval decision," said Soška today. According to him, it is necessary to finish equipping the pavilion; for example, a restaurant from Plzeň is currently being created.

According to artist Rony Plesl, his colleague Jakub Matuška still needs to paint 250 meters of the spiral in the pavilion to emphasize the concept of the exhibition. Plesl is fusing 750-kilogram glass tree trunks using a special technology for the pavilion. "We are prepared for criticism; Jan Černý, who will also be part of the Expo, has already experienced it," Plesl recalled the name of the creator who will design the clothing for the Czech pavilion staff. Černý was behind the design of the Olympic collection for Czech athletes last year.

According to Soška, the pavilion will feature a business program on weekdays and a cultural program on weekends throughout the exhibition until October 13. "About a hundred Czech companies and 200 artists from various genres will be presented," Soška stated. The cultural highlight is set to be the so-called national day, which falls on Thursday, July 24. On that day in Osaka, the Czech Philharmonic will perform alongside Cirk La Putyka, the Children’s Choir of Czech Radio, and singer Aiko.

The government has budgeted 290.2 million crowns for the Czech participation in Expo. According to Soška, it was expected that support from partners would reach approximately another 150 million crowns. "At this moment, we have secured partnerships at about the level of 100 million and are negotiating with another ten companies," said Soška. He believes that the financial goal will ultimately be exceeded.

The Czech Republic will participate in the world exhibition Expo as an independent state for the sixth time.
