The area that not long ago seemed like a forgotten space behind the railway tracks is beginning to transform into one of the most ambitious parts of Brno. The Trnitá locality, long associated more with industrial history and transportation infrastructure, is gradually being transformed into a new urban district that is expected to offer housing, jobs, and public space for tens of thousands of people in the coming years.

One visible step in this transformation is the emergence of a new urban boulevard, a wide avenue that will connect the historic center with the future main train station. It is in its immediate vicinity that the first residential projects are now starting to appear on the market.

The new district is expected to offer homes to up to 15,000 residents and job opportunities for tens of thousands more. A key element is the principle of a so-called "city of short distances" – an environment where services, work, and leisure activities are accessible within walking distance.

In addition to new transport infrastructure and the planned train station, public space also plays an important role. The boulevard, compared by some experts to Brno's version of Václavské náměstí, is to be a vibrant urban street with tree-lined walkways, shops, cafes, and places for socializing.

This vision is also linked to the residential project Bulvár Trnitá. It will offer apartments of various sizes, from smaller units to family homes, supplemented by commercial and office spaces on the ground floor. The project, currently underway, is expected to be completed in spring 2028.

The significance of the location is also underscored by its position. It is within walking distance of the center, near Galerie Vaňkovka, sports facilities, and cultural institutions. Another planned element is the revitalized riverbank of the Svratka River, which is intended to bring new recreational and green spaces to the area.

The transformation of Trnitá is not just an urban development project but also a symbolic return to the history of the place. The area was once one of the centers of Brno's industry, which included factories, railways, and workers' housing. Today, this space is reopening to the city, this time as a modern district that aims to become one of its most important addresses.
