Chrudim - Chrudim will gradually renovate the pilgrimage chapel in the local part of Vestec. The work is divided into three phases, with total costs amounting to approximately 400,000 crowns. Aleš Prokopec from the Chrudim town hall informed ČTK about this. The chapel is not used for religious purposes and is not a registered cultural monument. "Together with the two trees that grow beside it, it is an interesting landscape element," said Chrudim's Deputy Mayor Jan Čechlovský (ODS).
The simple baroque chapel, with a square floor plan, stands at the western end of the village. It was built in the 18th century, with some sources citing the year 1741. The outer walls of the chapel are made of stone, the vault is of a cross shape, and the capitals of the pilasters and the pilasters themselves are made of bricks. Originally, plaster was applied to the entire structure, and the entire space was artistically decorated. To this day, only part of the plaster with painted angels on the vault and small fragments of plaster with paintings on the capital of the pilaster and on the pilaster itself have been preserved. The entrance to the chapel consists of a simple stone portal, and the facade is simple with a crown cornice around it.
In the first phase, workers will provide static support for the vault, replace the truss and roofing, and the metal cross on the ridge of the chapel will be restored. In the second phase, it will be necessary to repair the exterior of the building and the surrounding terrain will also be modified. Finally, the repair of the interior and restoration interventions are planned. These will primarily affect the severely damaged wall frescoes.
In 2011, Chrudim had the so-called Red Chapel near the Střelnice park repaired for 400,000 crowns. It has a new roof, plaster, flooring, stained glass windows, and an entrance gate, and it has been drained. Inside the chapel, there is an oak altar with 14 contemporary paintings of attributes of the 14 holy helpers to whom it is dedicated. The creator of these works is the Chrudim artist Ivan Baborák.
