Prague - An international expert conference on the future possible shape of the Old Town Square is being held today in the New Town Hall building on Mariánské náměstí. It should also address the potential use of the plot that remained after the wing of the Old Town Hall, destroyed in 1945. The conference is intended for the broadest professional and lay public. Participation from architecture students is also welcome. The conference will take place from 09:00 to 16:30, with more than 80 guests already confirmed to attend. In four thematic areas, 12 contributions will be presented by selected experts, including those from abroad. An open discussion is expected to evaluate the previous competitions, reasons for their lack of success, reflect on the current state, gather ideas for possible transformations of the square, and indicate potential opportunities and limits of this space. From April to June 2008, an exhibition of previous competition designs for the completion of the town hall was held. Seven competitions took place between 1901 and 1967, none of which had a winner. In May of this year, a historical construction survey of the square was completed.
