Prague - Nearly 300 municipalities and over 1000 monuments are registered for this year's European Heritage Days. In the Czech Republic, it will take place from September 7 to 15, with the national theme being "Monuments in a New Light." One of the events during European Heritage Days will be "Industrial Traces" - on Saturday, September 14, the gates of breweries, mills, glassworks, mines, and other industrial heritage sites will open to visitors.
European Heritage Days is a Europe-wide event with a tradition of more than twenty years, aimed at promoting historical heritage. Every year, it opens as many architectural, archaeological, and sacred monuments, museums, galleries, libraries, technical monuments, and militaria, as well as other spaces that preserve movable cultural heritage. In the Czech Republic, not only officially declared cultural monuments are made accessible, but also dozens of private and public buildings that are usually not accessible at all or only occasionally and partially.
The national opening of European Heritage Days will take place on Saturday, September 7, in Olomouc. As usual, it will include the presentation of titles of "Bearer of the Tradition of Folk Crafts," awarded by the Minister of Culture. This year, it will be awarded to Jarmila Vítoslavská from Troubky near Přerov, who has devoted her entire life to the production of traditional Haná costumes.
The main organizer of European Heritage Days in the country is the Association of Historical Sites of Bohemia, Moravia, and Silesia. Since the first year, when 300 monuments participated and 50,000 people attended, both the number of visitors and the number of participating monuments have grown. In the last ten years, attendance has exceeded half a million people. Information about all accessible monuments can be found on the website www.ehd.cz.
