Houses in Prague 6 should be renovated for the seniors' house according to the design by Škarda architects

Prague – The houses on Šolínova Street in Prague 6 are to be adapted for the needs of the Senior Home (DPS) Eliška Purkyňová according to the design by Škarda architects. The proposal won an architectural competition announced last year by the Prague city hall through its organization. According to city representatives, the reconstruction of the building could be completed at the turn of 2024 and 2025. This was reported today by representatives of Prague and the director of the DPS Elišky Purkyňové, Eva Kalhousová. The building near Vítězné náměstí is currently unused.

After the reconstruction, the building is expected to transform into a service center primarily for seniors, as indicated by the councilor of the capital, Milena Johnová (Praha Sobě). In the renovated spaces, there should be a residential facility for seniors, a home with a special regime, and areas for respite services. The building will also include a doctor's office, a pharmacy, a café, and a hall for cultural events. Johnová previously stated that the cost of transforming the uninhabited building is estimated at 550 million crowns.

The architectural competition for the future design of the houses was announced last June and was conducted in two rounds. The winning proposal was chosen by a jury that included, among others, architects Pavel Hnilička, Lenka Burgerová, Pavel Nasadil, and Marek Tichý. The chairman of the jury was legal advisor of the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA) Jiří Plos.

The buildings near Vítězné náměstí were constructed between 1922 and 1924. At that time, they were used to accommodate abandoned people and those without families. Subsequently, a senior home was located there. However, in 2013, due to the poor condition of the buildings, the DPS Elišky Purkyňové moved to Břevnov. Prague 6 originally intended to repair the triplex at its own expense, but eventually agreed to collaborate with the Prague city hall.
