The construction of the first maritime port in the Czech Republic, Duchcov Marina, will take place on August 16 - 17, 2014. You can also participate in the volunteer construction at the Liptice Outlook. Sign up by sending an email to [email protected]. The project, with financial support from the VIA Foundation and under the auspices of the town of Duchcov, is organized by Moře Klidu, o.s. and the architectural studio Archwerk. The ceremonial opening of the marina will take place in September 2014. Duchcov Marina The area of the Upper Silesian brown coal basin is undergoing significant changes with the approaching end of mining activities; a significant portion of the reclaimed landscape is to be occupied by water areas from flooded mines. The civic association Moře Klidu responds to this feature of the landscape and, instead of half-hearted solutions from mining companies, presents an ambitious vision of a Central European sea. The plan is to highlight the features of the local landscape through a series of land art projects. One such idea is the creation of a “fictitious port” - Marina at the Liptice Outlook near Duchcov. The wooden structure (which follows the previous observation tower - lighthouse at Strupčice) aims to revitalize this space, bring a new atmosphere here, and engage local residents by involving them in the construction and subsequent use of the space as a tourist destination.
