Prague - Environmentally friendly buildings have filled the National Technical Library in Prague. The exhibition Green Architecture II, which presents around eighty projects from around the world, is divided into three exhibition presentations. Visitors can familiarize themselves with them until February 28. The exhibition presents three different approaches to so-called green architecture. The exhibition titled Form & Energy showcases exemplary eco-friendly buildings in Austria, such as power plants, transport constructions, concepts in the spirit of sustainable development in urbanism, and the construction of public buildings designed for education, culture, sports, commerce, and industry. The section Wooden Boxes confronts the approach of Finnish and Austrian architects to weekend homes. Photographs of the houses are set in wooden boxes and evoke the atmosphere of wooden constructions. The exhibition focuses on summer cottages, which represent a significant part of culture in Finland. Rather than luxury residences, these are simple structures connected to nature, where comfort such as electricity or hot water plays only a subordinate role. The third part of the exhibition project presents the results of the internationally monitored biennial competition Zumtobel Group Award 2010, which specifically seeks and rewards projects advancing sustainability in architecture. "Remarkable about many projects is that they teach their users to live in voluntary simplicity. As if architecture were determining the direction in the struggling economy of Western Europe or the United States, while simultaneously being a way out for many developing economies," said co-organizer of the project Dan Merta. The Green Architecture II project loosely follows up on the successful exhibition that opened four years ago in the reconstructed spaces of the Jaroslav Fragner Gallery in Prague. It is expected to continue throughout the year. "At the end of spring, we will give much more space to Michael Reynolds, the renowned architect of waste. In the fall, we will then focus on domestic examples of sustainable architecture," added Marta. The program will also include lectures and roundtables on the topic of green architecture. The first will take place on February 15. The curator of the exhibition Form & Energy, Adolph Stiller, will present. More information can be found at www.gjf.cz or www.techlib.cz.
