The façade of the extension of the Jablonec museum will be complemented by a glass element designed by Šváchová

Jablonec nad Nisou - The facade of the state Museum of Glass and Costume Jewelry in Jablonec nad Nisou will be complemented by a glass element designed by Tereza Šváchová from the architectural studio uncut. It will be located on the so-called Pelant staircase, which is a 60-year-old concrete annex to the main building of the museum. The jury in the competition announced last November chose from nine artistic proposals. This was reported today in a press release by the museum's director, Milada Valečková.

"The vast majority of applicants approached the object very sensitively, with respect for the original design by the Jablonec architect Karel Pelant," Valečková stated.

Tereza Šváchová succeeded with the proposal to place dichroic glass on the concrete surfaces, which selectively reflects different wavelengths while allowing others to pass through. At first glance, the colorless glass can change colors and reflect more shades depending on the angle of view and surrounding lighting conditions.

The jury also labeled the proposal that finished in second place as very successful. The duo of Markéta Váradiová and Iva Kolorenčová proposed covering the entire facade with white metallic paint with glass chip filler. In third place was Zuzana Kantová with a drawing made of fluorescent paint with UV filter, which would be visible only at night while the facade would remain purely white during the day.

The new element is expected to be added to the facade within a few months, and the museum plans to officially present it to the public during the museum night on May 17 as part of the 120th anniversary celebrations.
