Brno - The functionalist Hotel Avion in the center of Brno, opened in May after a 12-year reconstruction, is beginning to attract people after less than half a year of operation due to its architectural uniqueness. Petr Strouhal said this on behalf of the hotel's management, noting that the occupancy is satisfactory.

"Given that we have had practically no advertising so far, we consider the hotel's occupancy to be very good. More and more people are coming to us specifically because of the architecture, and they are enthusiastic about the results of the reconstruction," said Strouhal.

His words are also confirmed by guest reviews on the booking site Booking.com. People appreciate the unconventional space and forgive the hotel rooms for a certain crampedness caused by the atypical layout of the building, which was created on a narrow plot only eight meters wide.

The hotel also includes a museum of Bohuslav Fuchs, who designed its appearance. Visitors can familiarize themselves with functionalism in general and other architects from this period. People can walk through the museum with a guide. The hotel's management has now moved the breakfasts of hotel guests into the museum space.

The concept of the bistro on the ground floor of the hotel has also changed, where chef Adam Tokoš has started working. "The bistro and café in their original format did not work; we could not find the right staff. So we started looking for a quality chef who could bring something new. And that worked out," said Strouhal.

The bistro does not offer any lunch menus but original variations of well-known dishes made from high-quality seasonal ingredients. Its offer is relatively sparse, but every component of the dish is well thought out. The head chef plans to change the entire menu according to the current season, and the current one is expected to last until spring.

Hotel Avion closed to the public in 2010, and the renovation work started in 2016. It now offers 77 beds in 37 rooms. In particular, the rooms on the upper floors offer unobstructed views of Brno, as does the terrace on the top floor. The first four floors of the hotel will be publicly accessible as a museum dedicated to Fuchs.

Hotel Avion has been standing since 1928. Its rarity lies in the cramped plot, which is about eight meters wide. The hotel was built on the site of a demolished classicist house with a small inner courtyard. Fuchs had to work economically when solving the layout and space. The building is a protected monument.
