Tachov - The largest professional firefighting unit from the Tachov region is already planning to move to a new fire station. The modern building, costing 82 million crowns, which has been under construction for the second year on a greenfield site on the outskirts of Tachov, could be completed as early as December this year. It will replace the inadequate station in the center. Firefighters will finally have better facilities, and they will have the technology for demanding interventions under one roof. Jaroslav Klíma, the head of Tachov firefighters, told ČTK about it. "It should be finished by the end of the year. The location of the new station is more advantageous in terms of emergency response activities. It is situated at the exit from the city. It will provide us with spaces for training, education, and better social conditions," he stated. The current facility on Hornická street does not meet the needs of the unit. The new station is being constructed at the exit from the city towards Plzeň; the firefighters purchased the land from the town hall in 2008. They are financing the construction from their own resources, which were provided by the Ministry of the Interior. The project was reportedly decided upon so-called "at five minutes to twelve," and now, in times of savings, it would have no chance. The modern building will have garages, a wash bay, facilities for firefighters, storage rooms, and a workshop. Finally, firefighters will store their equipment in one building; until now, they used various facilities scattered around the city. The fate of the so-called old station in the city center, which the unit is currently using, has not yet been decided. "It could again serve the volunteer firefighters, who were originally there," added Klíma. According to the town mayor Ladislav Macák, the town hall is negotiating with the state regarding the building. "It would be ideal if the city acquired it free of charge through a transfer," the mayor stated. However, a lease is more likely. The city would also like to move the camera protection control center into the building. According to Klíma, the completion of the new station will not increase the number of firefighters. Currently, 13 people serve in one shift in Tachov, and the unit operates on three shifts. The second professional firefighting unit in the district is located in Stříbro, where five people are assigned per shift. In addition to professionals, around fifty volunteer firefighting units operate in the Tachov region.
