Prague - The Prague City Council is in talks with Prague 10 regarding the further development of the Ďolíček stadium in Vršovice. Part of the discussions includes plans for the neighboring parking lot, where a parking garage could be built, and the plots across the street, where the construction of a sports facility is planned. This was stated to ČTK by the councilor for education, sports, and leisure in Prague, Vít Šimral (Pirates). The city took over the stadium after long negotiations about the purchase last year.
According to Šimral, the further development of Ďolíček is connected with its surroundings. A new parking garage, he believes, would allow for an increase in the stadium's capacity. Originally, it was planned that shopping spaces with a supermarket could be developed on the plots. The project still exists, according to the councilor, but it is not the preferred option.
The land across the street next to the Přípotoční Gymnasium, which is managed by the city district, also deserves a solution, according to him. "The goal is for the solution of the entire area to make sense," said the councilor. He added that the city is considering building a new gymnasium on the plots next to the gymnasium. "At the same time, we have been contacted by Cirk La Putyka, which is looking for spaces for training," he stated, adding that the new hall could have an increased ceiling so that acrobats could train there.
The plots near the gymnasium have been entrusted to the city district since 2007, already with the condition that a sports facility would be established there. However, a market began operating there in 2008. Later, the city district sued the tenant who refused to vacate the market. The city council definitively won the dispute in 2017.
According to representatives of Prague 10, there is still no project for the use of the land. "The goal of the current leadership of the city district is to map the needs of the local residents and subsequently develop a project," stated the deputy mayor of the city district, Petr Beneš (Pirates). He confirmed that the city district is discussing the next steps with the city council and added that it is preparing a meeting with local residents regarding what they would like to see in the area. "It is not in anyone's interest to build at all costs, but the public space must be adapted to the needs of the locals," he stated.
The city negotiated for several years to purchase the Ďolíček stadium. Prague 10 initially wanted to buy the stadium, but the previous city council did not agree. The last council approved the purchase of the stadium by Prague in 2016. The city paid 121.1 million crowns for the sports facility, with the club Bohemians 1905 contributing an additional seven million, as the uncertainty surrounding the stadium had long caused problems for them.
