Hradec Králové - The Hradec Králové Museum of Eastern Bohemia today opened an exhibition about the relationship of architect Jan Kotěra to folk art, kicking off a series of events to mark the 100th anniversary of the museum's opening. The events will continue until the end of next year, said Dana Mylerová from the Hradec Králové museum today to ČTK. The museum building, regarded as a pinnacle of Kotěra's work, has been a national cultural monument since 1995. The exhibition that opened today is titled "Jan Kotěra. Echoes of Folk Art. In the Footsteps of Modernity" and will be open until April next year. The exhibition, borrowed from the Moravian Gallery in Brno, showcases the influence of folk art on the work of the famous architect, for example in the construction of the Trmal and Sucharda villas in Prague. From February to June, the museum will host an exhibition tracing the history of the building and the institution from its founding in 1880 until the 1950s, followed by other exhibitions. For example, from June to January 2014, there will be an exhibition titled The Muses Temple prepared specifically for the anniversary, along with a professional international conference about Jan Kotěra and his students. From September to January, an exhibition of interesting items that have been accumulated in the museum over 100 years will be accessible. "You will find items with stories, examples of conservation, but also the 13th room of the depositories - curiosities that have waited for their chance to be exhibited," stated Mylerová. The Hradec Králové Museum was established in 1880, and the public could first see the collections at Žižkov Square. The museum then grew and was housed in several buildings around the city, which is why a new building was constructed between 1909 and 1912, which the city council handed over to the museum in December 1912.
