Doksy (Českolipsko) - After four months, the reconstruction of the exterior shell of the architecturally significant building of the Máj cinema in Doksy, Českolipsko, has been completed. The roof repair, insulation of the building, and replacement of windows and doors cost nearly eight million crowns. This was reported today by the mayor Eva Burešová.

The insulation of the building, which resembles a ship in shape, is expected to reduce energy costs. The cinema will start screening again on Saturday, with the first event being the Snow film fest winter sports festival. "After the expedition camera, this is our second most popular festival," said the cinema's dramaturg and manager Miloslav Lomič. Nearly 8,000 visitors come to the cinema each year. "By the end of the reconstruction, there was already quite a high demand," Lomič noted.
The city received a European grant of 3.5 million crowns for the reconstruction of the building designed by architect Karel Hubáček. According to the mayor, they want to repair the interior of the building opened in 1963 in the coming years. The original electrical installations need to be replaced, and the air conditioning system modernized. Then the interior, which was also shaped by architects Lidmila Švarcová and Otakar Binar, is expected to be addressed.
"We want to maintain that nostalgic feeling of the cinema, we don't want to turn it into a modern multiplex," the mayor emphasized. According to her, the plans include adapting the stage for theatrical performances and replacing the seats in the auditorium, which currently has a capacity of 335 seats. They also need to renew the floors, acoustic panels, and paintings.
