Hradec Králové - A group of foreign investors wants to invest two billion crowns into the reconstruction of the barracks in Jičín. The area is set to be developed into a sanatorium for Czechs living abroad and other service facilities. The development company Global Resources, represented by a Jičín native who has been living in the USA for a long time, has already presented the first detailed study of the project to the Jičín city council. This was stated in today's Mladá fronta Dnes in the supplement for the Hradec Králové region. Investors want to transform the barracks in Lipy into a luxury sanatorium for Czechs who have long lived abroad and would like to spend their old age in their homeland. The six-hectare area should also include a hockey hall, retail passageways with restaurants, a multiplex cinema, a hotel, a conference center, and family homes. An underground parking lot is to be built under the barracks. Upon completion, all facilities are expected to offer approximately 300 new jobs. "The investor is interested in practically the entire barracks with the exception of the building we are still reserving for the potential relocation of the district court," said Jičín mayor Martin Puš. The city hall acquired the barracks from the army last autumn. The investor estimates that the construction of the area, including project preparation and the time needed to obtain all necessary permits, will take about three years. The city leadership is expected to clearly express its stance on the proposal before the municipal elections in October. "From the meetings so far, I have the impression that the company is really serious about its plans. At the same time, I realize that the negotiations are just beginning, and anything is possible in business," noted Puš.
