Přerov - The discussion regarding the construction of the new Tyrš Bridge in Přerov ended in a deadlock. The Přerov councilors did not support the proposal of the city council to build a bridge at the site of the current footbridge according to the design of the Prague Architectural Office of Alena Šrámková. The city has been considering the investment for several years. The current footbridge leading to the heritage zone is in a dilapidated state. “The councilors did not reach any conclusion, they did not support either the council's variant nor the opposition's proposal to delay the decision by two months. The negotiations were stalled on opinions regarding the architectural solution of the bridge as well as on the issue of transportation,” said Bohuslav Přidal, the spokesperson for the Přerov city hall, to ČTK today. According to the council's proposal, the bridge was to be one-way accessible from the center, and the traffic signage in the vicinity was to be adjusted. According to the city hall spokesperson, one of the variants is also that the footbridge could be repaired and could function for pedestrians for some time. This variant would cost three million crowns. The construction of the bridge had already been considered by the previous leadership of the city hall. They wanted to build a bridge with a cable structure, which won in the architectural-urban competition. However, this proposal was not supported by the residents in a public survey, nor by the conservationists and ornithologists. Nature protectors pointed out that the cables would become a deadly trap for the birds living around the Bečva River. The new leadership of the city hall then decided that the bridge would be created according to the design of the Prague Architectural Office of Alena Šrámková, which finished second in the competition. The bridge was to be adorned with sculptures, and people were to find benches and stalls there. The construction of the bridge was estimated to require 60 million to 70 million crowns. The city hall wanted to obtain a grant for the investment from the Regional Operational Program or from the state budget.
