Brno - The South Moravian region will build a new children's treatment center in Ostrov u Macochy with speleotherapy, which is a method utilizing cave climate. It will serve children with respiratory problems. The construction costs are around 150 million crowns, stated the region's spokesperson Monika Brindzáková in a press release. A treatment center has been operating in the area for decades, but it is outdated and no longer suitable. The new building is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
The children's treatment center with speleotherapy in Ostrov u Macochy is a specialized treatment institute where children, mainly of school age, have been treated for respiratory tract diseases for over 30 years. However, the current facilities are already inadequate. The region, as the founder, will therefore build a new center on the outskirts of the village, close to the Císařská cave, where the speleotherapy is located. Construction is expected to begin in 2021. The region will utilize funds from a loan from the European Investment Bank for this purpose. In total, they will borrow 700 million, some of which will also go to other projects.
The region will build the treatment center using the Design & Build method, in which the contractor is responsible for the design preparation of the project. "This approach allows the contractor room to implement innovative solutions. In this case, the contractor will be responsible for developing both the architectural study and all necessary stages of project documentation, as well as for the actual construction," said councilor Milan Vojta (ANO).
The treatment center is to have nearly 80 beds for children aged four to 18 years and possibly their companions. There will also be facilities for about 30 employees. "The new pavilion of the children's treatment center with speleotherapy will feature an indoor rehabilitation pool with seawater measuring five by eight meters. Currently, children travel to a pool in Blansko, and this situation is inadequate," said the deputy governor Taťána Malá (ANO).
According to her, the accommodation part of the treatment center will have triple rooms with private sanitary facilities. "The treatment center will also include rehabilitation spaces, a gym, saunas, and a dining facility with a capacity of about 100 lunches, 80 snacks, breakfasts, and dinners daily. The treatment center will also have spaces for three primary school classes, including facilities for teachers, which will be utilized by the Primary School at the children's treatment center in Ostrov u Macochy based on a loan agreement," Malá added.
