The South Moravian Region will build a new children's clinic for 206 million

Brno – The South Moravian Region will build a new children's treatment facility with speleotherapy in Ostrov u Macochy, a method utilizing the cave climate. It will serve children with respiratory problems, with construction costs estimated at 206 million crowns. South Moravian Region Governor Bohumil Šimek (ANO) has already signed the contract for works. This was stated today by the region's spokesperson Monika Brindzáková. A treatment facility has been operating in the area for decades, but it is outdated and inadequate.

The children's treatment facility with speleotherapy in Ostrov u Macochy is a specialized treatment institute where children, predominantly of school age, have been treated for over 35 years for respiratory tract diseases. However, the current facilities are no longer adequate. The region, as the founder, will therefore build a new one on the outskirts of the village, in close proximity to the Císařská Cave, where speleotherapy is located.

"The capacity of the treatment facility will nearly double compared to the current state. The new facilities will offer accommodation for up to 78 people – children and their companions. It will be possible to satisfy the demand for the effective treatment method offered by the facility to a greater extent. It is also a matter of course to establish quality facilities for its staff. To cover the total costs of the project, estimated at 206 million crowns, the South Moravian Region will also utilize a loan from the European Investment Bank," said Šimek.

The completion of design work and the start of construction is scheduled for spring 2021. A complex of four interconnected buildings will be created. In addition to rooms for child patients and their parents, three school classrooms with a playroom, a medical section, and a rehabilitation area with a pool accessible to the public will be built on the premises. The complex will also include two multifunctional sports fields, an arboretum, and a space for hippotherapy.

The governor signed the contract for works on April 24 with the consortium of companies VCES a.s., ENESA a.s., and Adam Rujbr Architects s.r.o. a year after the initiation of the procurement procedure. The South Moravian Region, as the contracting authority and investor, selected the contractor for both the design work and the construction in a single procurement procedure. The completion of construction work is planned for the end of 2022.
