Jindřichův Hradec - Jindřichův Hradec will repair Štítného Street in the heritage reserve, which is frequented by many tourists as it connects the most visited monuments. However, it is in poor technical condition, which is why starting on Friday, it will undergo a complete reconstruction costing more than 13 million CZK, said Zdeněk Maryška, head of the development department of the Jindřichův Hradec City Hall, today to ČTK. Most of the costs will be covered by a grant from the Regional Operational Program (ROP). The work is expected to be completed by May, so it will not disrupt the tourist season. "Štítného Street is located right in the center of the urban heritage reserve and in the past was paved with interlocking concrete blocks, which is still seen today as a major flaw," explained Maryška. The reconstruction will also include utility networks, particularly sewerage, water supply, relocation of electric cables, and gas lines. A large part of the dilapidated stairs around the Church of St. John the Baptist on the waterfront will also be replaced. The street will be covered with stone paving in three colors, which will match the appearance of the neighboring Panská Street, just with the colors reversed. "Even after the reconstruction, Štítného Street will remain a pedestrian zone with allowed access for delivery vehicles," stated Mayor Karel Matoušek. The renovation of Štítného Street near Míru Square will be one of the largest investment projects for the city this year. The work will require 13.2 million CZK, with the grant from ROP NUTS II Southwest exceeding 12.2 million CZK. The city will also receive other significant amounts from ROP this year. "This year, the grant will also assist in the construction of a kindergarten in the Hvězdárna Housing Estate or the modernization and extension of the swimming pool," specified Martina Kučerová from G-PROJECT, which secured the grant for the city. Jindřichův Hradec is gradually restoring its historical center, with significant reconstruction carried out in the square and surrounding streets in 2005/6. Last year, it received an award for the best preparation and implementation of the Urban Heritage Zone and Urban Heritage Reserve Regeneration Program for 2007, along with the title of Historic City of the Year 2007.
