The Office of Architecture of the City of Karlovy Vary (KAM KV°) celebrates March 1, 2019, the anniversary of its establishment. Its creation built upon the tradition of the Urban Planning Center - Department of the Chief Architect, which operated in Karlovy Vary from 1965 until the early 1990s. The KAM team, led by Director Petr Kropp, has been helping to organize the conditions for a welcoming, healthy, and friendly functional urban unit for a year now.
In addition to current topics that KAM expresses its views on, it also engages in conceptual work for the city of Karlovy Vary and citywide projects. “We are currently preparing the brief for our first architectural competition, which aims to revitalize the ceremonial hall in Rybáři and its immediate surroundings. We are initiating an update of the Strategic Plan, supporting the creation of the Mobility Plan, and as soon as our staffing allows, we want to get involved in the process of creating the urban plan. Another important task for this year is the development of a public spaces manual, which is essentially a guide for municipal organizations, city districts, or investors that will show them how to enhance the quality of streets, squares, or parks.” informs Petr Kropp.

Communication is important
An important part of KAM's work is the active involvement of the public, both the professional community and city residents, as well as the political representation. “We have launched a series of meetings called KAMjdeme°, in which we visit residents of various city districts and discuss their problems and opinions about specific neighborhoods. So far, we have held three meetings with citizens, and on March 5 we will meet with residents of Dvory at ZŠ 1. máje.” said Jana Boukalová from KAM.
During its first year of operation in Karlovy Vary, KAM has established its team and started building contacts with partners, including representatives of public administration, non-profit organizations, universities and secondary schools, developers, and many others. It organized an outdoor exhibition on public spaces and began regularly hosting lectures on topics related to the urban environment. KAM also organizes workshops with experts and meetings with the professional community to discuss specific projects.

Come celebrate with KAM
For its first anniversary, KAM has prepared a pleasant accompanying program. “On March 1, from 3 PM, the entire space of our office will be open to the public, who can come to get to know us and our work. From 5 PM, we will start celebrating - our invitation has been accepted by four successful poets, who will present us with an artistic genre that combines elements of poetry and theater - slam poetry. After this show, singer Aiko and Jan Lichtenberg with Ricardo Delfino will perform. We really have something to look forward to.” invites Jana Boukalová.
