Karlovy Vary - Karlovy Vary aims to select the director of the newly established contribution organization City Architecture Office by the end of the year. An independent expert will oversee urban planning and development strategies for the city. The selection will be assisted by a commission of external advisors, said Mayor Petr Kulhánek (KOA) to ČTK today.
"We have come to the conclusion to announce a tender, which will be approved by the city council on August 22, so that it can be publicly displayed for a month and we can have a jury meeting on October 10, as we have outlined. It should consist of nine members and mostly filled with external experts," Kulhánek stated. According to him, participants have included, for example, the chief architect of the Swedish partner city Varberg, Haakan Cullberg, and architect Michal Sedláček from Brno.
Thus, Karlovy Vary will become the third city in the Czech Republic, after Prague and Brno, to establish such a function. According to Kulhánek, the opinions of the architect's office should be binding for the city leadership, and the current city leadership promises to adhere to them.
The office will then be responsible for a wide range of topics, including addressing the development of the larger city center, utilizing the area of the former waterworks near the Ohře meander, addressing transportation issues in Karlovy Vary, and more. According to estimates, the operational costs of the new contribution organization of the city should be around four million crowns per year.
