Kladno – Kladno is offering for sale the former cinema located in the pedestrian zone in the city center for 36.5 million crowns. If there are no interested parties, the city plans to register the property on the list of brownfields, which would allow for grants to be obtained for the renovation of the building in poor technical condition, said Kladno councilor Lukáš Hanes (ODS) to ČTK today.

According to the councilor, the property does not realistically have even half the value of the requested price. However, the city must offer it as a proper manager for at least the same amount it was purchased for by the previous city administration, which is precisely 36.5 million crowns.

If a buyer does emerge, the city council will decide on the sale, which can cancel the transaction. "There is no need to be afraid that it would become a hostel again or another such problematic property," Hanes stated. He added that the use of the property is limited, for example by regulatory plans and other official regulations.

The city, in conjunction with the Czech Chamber of Architects, is preparing a potential design for the building's renewal, where a smaller hall for cultural use could be created again on the ground floor and offices or several apartments could be located upstairs. The estimated reconstruction costs are expected to exceed 20 million crowns.

During a visit to Kladno last year, Minister for Regional Development Klára Dostálová (for ANO) and Kladno's Mayor Dan Jiránek (ODS) told reporters that an IQ park could potentially be established in the former cinema. The city wanted to obtain grants for it, for example from the Ministry for Regional Development or European grants focused on tourism, which Dostálová indicated could be announced in the upcoming grant period.

The former cinema Oko is situated in the pedestrian zone in the city center and is a cultural monument. The property is mostly empty and previously served partially as a hostel. The former cinema hall is currently used as a retail space for textiles and other goods.

The six-story building has stood in the center of Kladno since the end of the 19th century and acquired its current form in the functionalist style in the 1930s.
