Kolín - Kolín wants to repair Masaryk Bridge in the next three years, which is considered by the city leadership to be an important monument of First Republic architecture. Kolín has now approved a proposal to invite companies that should prepare project documentation, according to which the city will then proceed. The city wants not only to repair the most damaged places but also to focus on the appearance of the bridge. ČTK was told this by Mayor Vít Rakušan (Change for Kolín).

The total costs that the bridge repairs will require are not yet known. In this year's budget, Kolín has earmarked one million crowns for the repairs of the bridge. "For this year, it is expected that some basic work will already begin," Rakušan said. According to him, the city will proceed with the repairs in logical parts. "It definitely won't be the case that we suddenly erect scaffolding and close the entire bridge. We want the repairs to interfere as little as possible with the traffic on the bridge," added the mayor.

In the first phase, the city wants to focus on repairing the most damaged areas, such as the railings or bridge pillars which have cracks. Following that will be the visual aspect, such as a new coating. "We long-term want to bring the bridge to a state that corresponds to the fact that it is an important monument of First Republic architecture," Rakušan said. The renewal of the bridge is also supported by the councilors.

According to Rakušan, the bridge is not dangerous. "The bridge report that describes its condition is fine," he said. Thus, the repair will mainly concern the visual aspect; the structure of the bridge is in good condition.

Kolín is managing a surplus budget of approximately 1.2 billion crowns this year. The town hall will invest 513 million, which is 80 million more than last year. Among the largest projects are the completion of the bus station repairs and the reconstruction of the area around St. Bartolomew's Church.
