Prague - The leadership of Prague wants to select a concessionaire by November who will repair and operate the historic Old Town Market Hall. This follows from today's resolution by the city councilors. The restoration of the building will cost more than 300 million crowns. Politicians have been talking about the restoration of the markets in the Old Town Market Hall for several years.

The market hall is located in the courtyard bordered by the streets of October 28, Rytířská, Perlová, and Na Můstku. The ground floor of the monument-protected building, which dates back to 1894, currently serves as a shopping center. Individual shops and restaurants are installed within the historic building. For the average visitor to the shopping center, the heritage value of the market hall is only recalled by the decorated passage from Rytířská Street. Beyond that, people can only see part of the roof structure of the building through the built-in walls and ceilings of the shops, which in one place reveals a glass view.

Prague wants to remove the built-in structures and restore the sale of food and other goods in the building. "The returned purpose of the building will allow the architectural value of the monument-protected building to be restored as well," writes in the material that the city council has previously approved. The market hall will serve exclusively for the sale of food and the provision of gastronomic services. Part of the concession contract will include that the operator must not operate a casino or gaming house in the historic building, nor sell clothing or souvenirs.
