Experimental wooden structures by Martin Rajniš in Horní Maxov and transmitter on Ještěd.

Friday, September 21, 2007
Departure from Prague, metro station Černý most at 9:00, arrival by 23:00
Price: 80 CZK

The morning destination of the excursion is Scholzberg near Horní Maxov, where architect Martin Rajniš has been alternatingly residing for over half a century. In recent years, several original experimental structures have been created here: a wood storage building in the shape of a house "Stodola" (2004, together with K. Amblerová), a tall wood storage with a control staircase "Věž Scholzberg" (2006), a wood storage with a parking space (2007), and a test piece of the climatron model (2007). The buildings will be presented by Martin Rajniš personally.
Martin Rajniš (*1944) studied architecture at ČVUT, at AVU with Professor Cubr, and later at the School of Architecture with architects Masák and Hubáček in SIAL in Liberec. Together with co-authors, he built the Máj department store in Prague, a pavilion at the World Expo in Vancouver, numerous family houses, villas, exhibition pavilions, and several administrative buildings. He is currently experimenting with prefabricated and assembled wooden structures. Recently, the Post Office at Snezka was ceremonially opened, which he designed together with Patrik Hoffman. In the afternoon, the excursion will continue with a tour of the nearby transmitter on Ještěd. The television transmitter and mountain hotel Ještěd was realized in the second half of the 1960s according to a design by architect Karel Hubáček, who received the prestigious Perret Prize from the International Union of Architects for it. The building stood out not only for its exterior appearance but also for the design of the interiors, which harmonized perfectly with the exterior (only part of it is preserved).
