Moravská Třebová - Moravská Třebová has selected the winning design for its new cultural and community center. It will be located in the premises of the former Miltra dairy in Jirásková Street, which the city has purchased. In the architectural competition, which involved six teams, the best entry came from the architectural office Rusina Frei Architekti, said city spokesman Jonáš Krummer.
The winning proposal includes the construction of a community hall with seating for 250 to 500 people, a cinema for 80 viewers, a new city community library, facilities for a museum's depository, a bar, a café, and other spaces for social life. An open area will feature a city garden, and a restored chimney will serve as a rainwater tank. The project also includes the construction of necessary parking spaces.
The study will serve as a basis for the development of further stages of project documentation. "At the same time, we will be prepared to apply for grants related to the support of cultural and creative centers. We estimate the cost of implementing the entire project at 300 million crowns. However, it is highly likely that construction will take place in separate building phases, as defined by the winning study itself,” said Mayor Miloš Mička.
For Moravská Třebová, the variety and multifunctionality of the offered spaces and services are particularly important. "The combination of different sizes and types of halls will allow us to use the cultural center for both large public events and the intimate activities of individual associations or hosting private celebrations. It is also important for us that the place is active throughout the day and does not only open for evening programs," said Marie Blažková, director of cultural services. For this reason, it was decided to connect the community hall, cinema, library, and café. The library is expected to enliven the entire space and create links to the nearby high school and nursing home. The center will be located next to the city museum, which does not have suitable spaces for storing its collections.
The area, covering one hectare in Jirásková Street, which the city acquired for 11 million crowns in 2020, is near the city center and adjoins the park by the city museum. The factory hall and former machine room will be preserved, as will the character of the original gable roofs.
