Lednice (Břeclavsko) - This year, nature educators from the local Faculty of Horticulture at Mendel University will begin guiding interested parties through the castle park in Lednice, located in the Břeclav region, which is one of the natural unique sites. They are responding to the rapidly increasing public interest in park tourism. They have prepared two walking routes for the public. This was stated to ČTK by the faculty's expert assistant, Přemysl Krejčiřík. During the tours, the focus will not just be on presenting the most interesting trees and plants of the park, but primarily on showcasing it as a living work of art. The park was established around the Lednice Castle in the 19th century by its owners from the princely House of Liechtenstein. Their goal was not only to enhance the landscape in an English style. They had 40 structures built in it—so-called salets—whose purpose is to beautify the park. They serve as resting or viewing spots or summer pavilions. In the tree-covered landscape, clearings were created so that one structure can always be observed from another. Mysticism also found its place in the creation of the park. The Liechtensteins were members of a Masonic lodge, and the clearings in the Lednice park are arranged in such a way that from a bird's eye view, they form a giant sign of the lodge, which is a five-pointed star - a pentagram. This has remained evident to this day. The clearings create the star along with horse chestnuts. "The pentagram may be breaking down, but it is still clearly visible when they bloom. It is in May, for which we will prepare walks to present this pattern in the landscape," Krejčiřík stated. Visitors will walk through the French Garden of the park with faculty staff, learning about its collection of oaks, which thrive exceptionally well in the vicinity of Lednice, as evidenced by their size. The local castle is the most visited monument in Moravia, attracting around 330,000 visitors annually. The annual attendance of the park is estimated to be around three-quarters of a million people. The Lednice-Valtice area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997.
