Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - The city of Litomyšl in the Svitavy region will receive 400 million crowns for repairs to the castle hill. The ambitious project financed by European funds will cover the repair of historically protected buildings in the city center. These will then be much more accessible to the public in a few years. CTK was informed today by Mayor Michal Kortyš (ODS).
"Three years of work have borne fruit, on February 6 we will officially sign the contract with the Minister of Culture,” said the mayor.
The heritage protection authorities also requested 200 million crowns for the restoration of the Renaissance castle, but they were unsuccessful. According to the mayor, the project should not have been divided into two. However, the heritage protectors refused to lend the monument to the city for several years. Delays prolonged the submission of applications by several months.
"If they had allowed us to do it for five years and lent us the castle, we would have been able to handle the project better. There was poor communication between us and the heritage protectors; I regret the outcome,” said Kortyš.
Preparatory work, which will precede the repairs of the Piarist monastery and church, coach house, and castle brewery, will take about half a year. The city has most of the projects ready, but still needs to complete all the administrative permits and select a company to carry out the repairs.
"Maybe in August we could start with the repairs, and everything could be approved within three years. We have one task behind us, and other equally complex ones await us," said Kortyš.
The project for the castle hill includes the repair of 11 buildings, in addition to those already mentioned, the city will also have the riding hall, stable, barn, park, first and upper courtyards, and forecourt renovated.
