Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - The town of Litomyšl is preparing a tender for the renovation of the castle hillside. This is the most demanding project they have ever undertaken. The reconstruction, which will cost 400 million crowns, includes a number of heritage buildings. Mayor Michal Kortyš stated this to the journalists. "It is a very complex and extensive project. We hope to announce the tender for the suppliers of construction and restoration works in August or September," Kortyš said. The town has been preparing the project since spring 2007. In February this year, it signed a contract for 400 million crowns from European subsidies, which are provided retroactively; they have already paid 30 million crowns for projects and other preparatory work from their own funds. City officials pointed out that there have been around 120 construction amendments just for the castle brewery. Historical buildings are often in very poor condition, and defects that need to be repaired emerge gradually. Therefore, the city hall had already anticipated a reserve in case the restoration and construction works started to get more expensive. Mayor Kortyš hopes that the well-developed budget will not be exceeded; otherwise, the city hall will cover the additional costs. "We have done the project preparations diligently; I believe we should not exceed the budget," Kortyš said. If everything goes according to schedule, the work will finish in December 2012. Over the next two years, a total of seven buildings and four open spaces are to be renovated on the castle hillside. The reconstruction will include the castle brewery, riding hall, carriage house, stable, horse barn, Piarist college, and church.
