Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - Litomyšl in the Svitavy region is preparing to open the first monument-protected buildings, which are being repaired as part of the Castle Hill project. The castle riding school and the castle brewery are expected to open to the public on May 19. Conversely, the completion of some buildings will be delayed due to archaeological findings. This was stated by Mayor Michal Kortyš today. "The buildings will host a concert, exhibitions, and will be followed by the Smetana Litomyšl music festival. We will be opening all the buildings gradually," said the mayor. The Castle Hill project includes the restoration of seven historical buildings and four open spaces, as well as restoration work. By the end of June, the builders should hand over the castle courtyard. Conversely, the paving at the fore-castle will take longer because the archaeological research is not finished there. Archaeologists are also reporting significant finds at the Piarist college. "We need to redesign this. There was a refectory in the basement, we cannot build there. And we had to lower the upper part of the building by half a meter," stated the mayor. According to the mayor, the new assignment now has to be processed by the designer, and the completion of the entire building will be delayed. The town hall received 400 million crowns for the project from the European Union and began the repairs in 2011. It should be completed by the end of this year.
