Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - Litomyšl is considering how to improve the acoustics of the recently renovated Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross. The space has too long a reverberation time, which disrupts musical performances during concerts. The installation of a so-called acoustic reflector could be a solution, said Deputy Mayor Michal Kortyš (ODS) to reporters today. "The original acoustic solution was included in the project, but due to costs, it started to be cut back. We even removed the acoustic part with the intention of returning to it later," Kortyš stated. The acoustic reflector has the shape of a shell with a diameter of eight to ten meters and reflects the music played by the orchestra. This would shorten the current reverberation time from eight seconds to half. The problem is the placement of the device in front of the altar, which would be covered by the reflector. The second option is the originally proposed "blinds" that would be drawn down from the balcony. They would prevent the reflection of sound from the walls. The city hall does not yet know the costs of the individual variants. The Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross was opened last June. The city received 400 million crowns from the Integrated Operational Program and from the state for its repair and the reconstruction of the entire castle hill with ten other buildings. The revitalization of the church itself cost 70 million crowns, half of which was for the restoration of the furnishings. The repairs also included the installation of an organ, which is expected to be tuned this spring.
