Prague - In connection with the plan to build a government quarter in Letňany, the Property Office has proposed selling 33 administrative buildings in Prague. Two ministries want to open to the public. The proposal includes some buildings of the Ministry of Regional Development, the Ministry of Finance, the Czech Environmental Inspection, and customs officials. This is evident from the list published today by the Office for State Representation in Property Affairs (ÚZSVM).

The office also stated that it has examined 101,000 plots of land in all 112 cadastral areas in Prague. According to the findings, the highest number of officials can be accommodated in Letňany. Other state and municipal lands are not sufficient for such a plan, it stated.

The Central Register of Administrative Buildings recorded 352 buildings used by state institutions in Prague last April, ÚZSVM reported today. Annual expenses for their operation and maintenance amounted to approximately 1.3 billion CZK. For the rental of 90 buildings for officials, the state spent about half a billion crowns.

According to the Property Office, there is a risk that in the next ten years, the state will pay around 25 billion crowns for offices in the capital. Approximately half of this amount will be made up of operating and maintenance expenses. Investments in energy-intensive offices are expected to reach 7.6 billion, and for rent, the state will spend 4.5 billion crowns.

The idea of building an administrative quarter was proposed by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO). Last Wednesday, he met with Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates), who had so far rejected the construction of the administrative complex. After the meeting, both politicians stated that they would continue to negotiate. The use of over 30 hectares of land near the metro station has been under discussion for some time. Currently, it is a field; previously, the then-mayor Pavel Bém wanted to develop the parcels for the Olympic Games.

During negotiations in January, Hřib requested a list of properties intended for sale. He received information about them on January 30 from the Director General of ÚZSVM, Kateřina Arajmu. Subsequently, on February 8, ÚZSVM received a letter from Hřib, which, according to the office, expanded his requests to all buildings that could be related to the relocation of state employees, and newly defined the requested data.

On Wednesday, Hřib stated that the prime minister had not provided the list of buildings that officials should vacate. "As a result, we are unable to assess the impacts of moving offices on the operation and development of the capital city," the mayor stated.

"The requested data is recorded in the Central Register of Administrative Buildings, which is public by law. Therefore, ÚZSVM is now analyzing the extent to which the data can be made public without violating the law," the office stated. It added that it is not hiding any data.
