Mělník – The Mělník library is moving to new premises in the former service building. When it will be opened to the public is not yet clear, it will depend on the epidemic situation, said Mělník's deputy mayor Milan Schweigstill (for STAN).
The moving of books began this week and is expected to be completed in December. The city's leadership will inform the public about the opening date, according to the deputy mayor.
The new location offers the library more suitable spaces, and readers will have better facilities here. It also includes a smaller conference hall, a café, and areas for children and seniors. The construction modifications for the library cost around 15 million crowns, and the city spent several million crowns more on library equipment. The design of the building's reconstruction was proposed by architect Tomáš Hořava.
Previously, the Mělník library was located in the pseudo-Gothic villa Karola, where an art school is to operate in the future. However, the building needs to be repaired, and the city already has a project prepared.
