Mělník – Mělník has announced a tender for the renovation of the monumentally protected pseudogothic Villa Karola. Until recently, it was used by the city library, and after reconstruction, it is set to serve a school of arts. The work is expected to be completed by June 2022 at the latest, according to the published tender.

"The construction modifications will be carried out with regard to the monument protection of the building,” states the documentation assignment. The interior layout of the building will change, which means that some partitions will be torn down. The electrical and internet installations also need to be renewed. According to the project, the value of the tender is about eight million crowns.

The arts school could have, for example, an art studio, a smaller music hall, and other spaces for teaching in Villa Karola.

The villa was built in the 19th century by district secretary František Vinkler according to a design by architect Alois Filčík. It is named after the secretary's wife, Karolina. It consists of two houses, no. 40 and 41, which are located in the historical center of the town.

The Mělník city library has been relocated to modern premises in the former House of Services on Karl IV Square since last December.
