Karlovy Vary

The Office of the City Architecture of Karlovy Vary is an organization focused on architecture and urbanism, the future vision of the city, spatial planning, and public space. An important task of KAMKV is communication with the public; our team aims to be a mediator for discussions between professionals, the city's residents, and political representatives.
Our main goal is to co-create and maintain the overall concept of the city's development. KAMKV's task is to discuss and formulate the legitimate interests of the city for its further development. In matters of urban development, architecture, and urbanism, decisions are often made solely on a political level without adequate professional background. There has been a lack of sufficient control over interventions in public spaces, and there has been no long-term concept for urban creation.
The team of the Office of the City Architecture of Karlovy Vary will work in dialogue with the city's self-government and its residents to create a shared vision of the city's image as a whole over the next approximately 25-30 years.
KAMKV strives to create conditions for a friendly, healthy, safe, and pleasant functional urban entity, fosters the quality of architecture, consciously shapes the unique image of the city, initiates and formulates meaningful tasks for architectural competitions, and advocates for the realization of their results. It actively participates in public dialogue about the city and stimulates public interest in urban space. We are trying to attract young professionals who are interested in creating and maintaining such a vision of the city with us.
We started our activities on March 1, 2018. However, the establishment of our organization was decided on June 27, 2017, when it was approved by the council at its meeting. After three months of operation, we currently have a four-member team.
The first location of our workplace is in Pavilion D on Milady Horákové Square, with part of the pavilion open to the public for viewing professional books, brochures, and printed materials. Soon, we will meet in this space for discussions about the city, lectures, and workshops.
