Mikulov (Břeclavsko) - The baroque castle towering above Mikulov in Břeclav has acquired permanent night lighting in recent days. Although the illuminated monument brings joy to the city's residents at night, there is a discussion about the placement of the floodlights that illuminate its upper floors. They are mounted on poles that some members of the public find unsightly. However, the leadership of the regional museum, which is located in the castle, believes that the best lighting method has been chosen. "The fashion of night lighting of monuments is a matter of only the last few decades. Therefore, we decided not to disguise the floodlights in historic cast-iron lamps, but to place them on poles with a modern design," said the director of the Mikulov regional museum, Dobromila Brichtová, to CTK today. She emphasized that the museum management tried to do everything possible so that the lighting does not disrupt the architecture of the castle. The floodlights aimed at its lower floors are placed in the ground. However, something similar was not technically possible for the lamps aimed at the higher parts of the building. The construction of the lighting cost about 1.2 million crowns. The castle previously had its main tower illuminated by two floodlights. After the installation of the new system, it is unmistakable at night. Everyone traveling on the route between Vienna and Brno can also admire it.
